Out and About (OAA) is a program that supports Center for Independent Living (CIL) staff to promote their consumers’ participation in their communities. By learning what consumers want to do and by helping them to set goals and achieve them, CIL staff can facilitate consumers’ breaking down barriers to get out and about to do what they want, as much as they want, in the community.
For example, consumers might set goals to:
- learn how to use the public transit system, or paratransit;
- gain advocacy skills
- explore community resources and accessibility
- manage personal assistance services
- become a volunteer
- create a social network or many more!
